Fantasy vs Reality of Lambo ownership

I drove for 2 hours. And I drove about 80 miles on that thing. But after 2 hours I was tired and wanted to sleep. That car wears you down if you push it at every stop light, almost the same feeling after getting off an airplane.

But ya I wanna figure out if I had the option to buy one, would renting it or owning one make more sense when I know I can rent at $300 for 2 hours. I used Groupon discounts to get the price down from an already heavily discounted price.

I may consider taking out the GTR next, it's only $500 for 24 hours, and it's modded.

Gents, you a way too emotional about Lambos. It's just a car, most beautiful car amongst others, but just a car.

End of the day, it's just a car. Even my roommate who owns an R8 hates it when I tell him I drove faster cars than his. He knows his V8 R8 is slow for an exotic, and being single clutch also makes it slower. He needs at least a V10 to be on Lamborghini level, possibly dual clutch.

Did you owners rent a Lamborghini for at least a day before buying one? My emotional factor of staring at a Lamborghini wallpaper and fantasizing about it is gone, I just enjoy the car for its ability to make me feel like I'm falling down. I had a co-worker who had a computer wallpaper of the BMW i8. I wonder if he tried that car before because I test drove one for free at the BMW dealership and it wasn't heart stopping fast, it was just normal fast for someone who has driven economy cars their whole life. Huracan is def faster. But then the BMW i8 is more comfortable and practical for normal driving if you must be in something exotic lookinng, doesn't have the crazy blind spots like the Huracan.

Interesting read ,,,I see your point totally,,but here's the thing ask yourself deep in your heart is this car something you want to have in your garage? I'm willing to bet YES. Most people here made money to own one of these because they really want to have it so a lot of it is lifestyle or trophy for their success. In my case it is part life style part the love of Lamborghini and it's worth EVERY PENNY. Also you seem to forget that we live in America and taxes is a major major reason why most people get these cars. This is my 3rd exotic and I write them ALL off or I could buy them but most of my decisions comes down to business/tax decisions type thing. I will share with you something tho that's interesting I live in Las Vegas and I took my H for a spin on the Vegas Strip after say 3 different times it got old very quick and I asked myself this question "How many thumbs up or looks and stares do I need to lift my ego? So I will not be taking her on the strip anymore unless it's a business meeting or something,,the point is I am in it for the performance of the vehicle and that is the pure fun of owning these cars NOT driving around trying to get attention. Listen to most of these people here and pay attention,,most people here been where you are at now and believe me there's NO SHORTCUTS in life. By the way renting the car for $300 for couple hours that's for midgets dude....Go buy one and you'll see it's ALOT different with owner experience vs. Renter .To all my H owners here I salute you!

I believe you on the pure joy comes from the performance. To me, no other car can make me feel like I am falling down or jumping outta an airplane.

The attention is a plus. I guess the people whipping out their cell phones or other cars who chat it up at least makes you feel people approve your buying decisions. Everyone who talked to me thought I owned the car, lol. Because I could say you could get buyers remorse if you bought something expensive and then realized nobody cared you spent a ton of money on it.

I love the performance. No other normal luxury car will ever come close to a Huracan. I think it's a waste of money to buy anything lesser than a Lamborghini now that my expectations are now on Huracan level. I'm just going to think every sport sedan from Mercedes or BMW is slow and I would rather rent a Huracan once a while than own an M3. I need that falling down type rush I get when I accelerate or it's not worth getting a sports car.

The GTR may be the only car that will satsify my needs for that falling down acceleration rush that's on the affordable side. People say it's faster than the Huracan. I assumed the attention was part of the Lamborghini experience since many car nerds know the GTR is faster than the Huracan. At this point, you will have to factor in the attention factor & prestige of the Lambo if you're going to pay more for less speed. The GTR may be a little easier to drive since it's not low to the ground. But then that's what gives the Lambo it's cool looks, so I guess that exotic look doesn't come for free when it comes to comfort.

Plus it was just a one day thing and it's just something different I noticed when I got to be in the driver's seat. I don't know if I would love that attention every single day if I want to have a normal day. I'm not looking for a I'm better than everyone attention, it's more of the "is that guy in a spaceship" type of reaction that is cool. Like you're driving something very unusual and mind blowing. If a shitty car wants to race against me, I wouldn't mind accepting a challenge.

If the OP would like a car that gives him a "falling down acceleration" - buy a Civic, throw a massive turbo on it, and call it a day. Or, he could buy a Civic, and drive it off a cliff. It would be a less expensive option - both are viable, as the OP does not want to attract attention.

@jetfalcon - I believe you don't get what, for the majority of us, exotic ownership entails. For most of us (and I certainly can't speak for all of us), it represents the embodiment of years of dedication, focus, and achievement. Most exotic owners actually aren't attention whores - for me, I'm just a car nut, whose exotic is a reward solely for myself to appreciate whenever I open the garage door, whenever I get behind the wheel. I really do consider myself lucky to have the opportunity, means, and inclination to purchase an exotic. So I did. Renting one even several times a year would mean absolutely nothing to me, at all.

It seems like you are hooked on the speed aspect. You claim you don't love the attention. You seem open to racing whatever "shitty" (to quote your message) car lines up next to you.

Why don't you just take your M3, put a supercharger on it to get it to 750 crank HP, and call it a day?

That way, you could have something crazy fast - "falling down" fast, even, and still be relatively incognito.

Haha, sounds more like a justification or self-preservation of the reality that it will be some time before you can comfortably have one. Which is great that you are stressing the comfort part. To your point why pay as much as a house if you either don't even have a house or your house is $300k less nice as you would like it to be. We spend more time in our house than a car. For this reason most Lambo owners either have a phat house too or simply don't want one and are fine spending the extra $ on the car.

I personally am always aware that the $270k tied up in a car is depreciating in value. Whereas a $270k more real estate value is going up 10% or so in a good market. That said, we aren't tying up the full price of the car. We are only paying the depreciation which is only absorbed when we sell it. So if I drive the crap out of mine and sell for $180k then I really only spend $90k for the 5 years of having an awesome car. And as a car fanatic since I was a child that is well worth it to me!

Well I did do the $90k over 5 year breakdown against the 2 hr $300 rental. I guess that comes out to $1500 a month. And as long as you drive the car over 10 hours a month, ownership will make more sense than renting it for $150 per hour. But this is just the depreciation, I haven't factored in the gas, maintenance, insurance, other expenses that I used up during my rental time, which I'm sure adds up. I drove about 80 miles in my 2 hour drive. My $300 2 hr ride included gas and insurance, and the guy was nice enough to let me have an extra 20-30 minutes to come back probably b/c he knew there be traffic.

But $300 for 2 hours is the best deal to rent a Lamborghini, especially a Huracan instead of a Gallardo. Most Groupon deals I see is like $100 for 5 laps in a Lamborghini in a parking lot, and at that point it's just a tease.
