R8 vs Huracan
So driven a Huracan couple months ago from one of those rental companies that let you take an exotic out for $100 / 20 minutes. Last time they had a Huracan out and it was a pretty sick car. It was easy to drive for an exotic and I felt comfortable pushing the car to it's limits within reason, while obeying speed limits. Mostly launching at traffic lights, the car feels like being shot out of a gun.
But I test drove my roommate's 2009 R8 (V8) and it wasn't like the experience of the Huracan. It looks like an exotic and most people who see it usually admire it. But when I floored it felt like it was lagging. Mainly I think it was the single clutch. When it was ready to shift, I felt I had to wait rather than it being instant. I have driven an M3 with dual clutch and when driving a single clutch, that thing takes forever to engage gear. It was hard to push the R8 and I felt kind of uncomfortable trying to because the single clutch lag was hard to anticipate. Also did not really feel as fast as it looks. But my roommate admitted his R8 isn't really fast and cars like the GTR can smoke it. It's probably fast for a normal person, but comparing to the Huracan it doesn't handle like one. It feels like a big boat sorta.
I mean he will let me drive it again eventually, but I want to be able to push the car next time and be in control, know how to drive it the way it's supposed to. I like cars but I'm not super knowledgable about it compared to guys who take their car to the tracks. I just can't get used to single clutch, it feels very strange to me like a ghost is shifting the car for me instead of me engaging the clutch & shifting.

Not really a fair comparison in my opinion... 09 r8 v8 single clutch compared to the huracan which is much newer and better tech.. maybe a G would be a better comparison but then again its still a V8 vs V10. Maybe a R8 V10 would be the best comparison..

I have tried Gallardos before, like '06 & '14. So an old one and then one of the last gen Gallardos before Huracan. And the Huracan was a huge improvement over both those Gallardos, it truly felt fast.
But the R8 was kind of similar to the Gallardo, it's fast but not as fast as the Huracan. I just wonder if spending more on a V10 will make a huge difference in speed to a normal person who likes cars, but isn't super geeky into cars.
But for a car that's already 8 years old, the R8 is still looking great. My roommate bought this car used so probably got it under a $100k, his second car is an S2000.

I just sold my 2009 v8 r8 not to long ago actually & now have a Huracan. No comparison...I thought the r8 was "pretty fast" the H is insane stupid knock your teeth out fast when you push it. 2 completely different engines & cars & tech running them you can not compare them at all.
The only r8 you can compare the Huracan to is of course the new 2016 r8 which has pretty much the same engine & much of it besides looks."Go look at yourself in the mirror & say "I'm going to win, I'm going to do this & no one will stop me...Not even you" #GrindOrDie

I had a R8 V10 which I sold a few months ago and I can tell you that the Huracan is light years better. The gen 1 R8 is very dated now with tech from 2007 and the dread single clutch tranny. The 2014+ was better with the dual clutch but inside the cabin the car was still dated.
It would be better to compare the gen 2 R8 V10+ with the Huracan.

R8 vs Huracan
The technology gap is huge, especially on gearbox.
Still i decided to chime in to add that even on a single clutch auto you can get good shifts if you learn the car and you modulate the throttle before shifting.

Absolutely, I agree. I am still learning my Huracan, having only put on about 200 miles on it, and I could drive my LP560 much more smoothly then, than I can my Huracan, now. I am still getting used to not having to lift off the throttle, between shifts on the Huracan.
The V8 R8 isn't really fast at ALL. I was fairly easily able to out run one in my 2009 M3 which was a quick car, but not stupid fast, at all.__________________________________________________

If you could find a clean V8 MT I would buy it and hold on to it. At some point it'll appreciate in value.

The NA V10 is still in production whereas the V8 is no longer in production and the new base is rumored to be a turbocharged V6 plus MT is long gone. I believe at some point the NA V10 MT will go up but when I say appreciate in value I'm talking maybe 20 years from now.
