We might be a little biased because we sell and install Ceramic Pro, so that would be our recommendation for the best protection and least amount of maintenance. In our experience, CQuartz is softer and easier to scratch. Heard good things about Modesta, but of course out pick would still be Ceramic Pro.

However, if it's something you want to install yourself, you have a whole array of good products you can use. Everything from synthetic waxes to carnaubas. Just depends on how often you want to reapply. The Wolfgang synthetic stuff is really good if you want something for application at home.

My 17 Spyder is 100% wrapped with Xpel Ultimate.
My 16 Cayenne Turbo S is not wrapped but treated with Ceramic Pro.

I had an issue with my Ceramic Pro installer so I went with CQuartz over the XPel wrap on the Spyder. I will say I am very disappointed with CQuartz. After one drive the car retains dust. I can drive the Cayenne for a good two weeks and sitting in the garage looking at both cars, the Cayenne looks like it has just been washed.

I am not sure if the issue with CQuartz is with applying it over Xpel but it's just not doing the job. The CQ installer always advises me to apply "Reload" after every 3 washes or so, which I do, no difference.

I regret not going with CP on the Spyder with a different installer. I have spoken to one and he said the lambo would need to be stripped of Xpel and start all over again. That's roughly another 8k+ for the full wrap and treatment I'm just not willing to spend.

So, all that being said. Is the problem I am having with CQ retaining dust because of the product being applied over the wrap? Would CP applied over a wrap provide the same results as CQ does?

Hi ^^^ - I'm going to try and reply to the above the best I can. Note, this is coming from me, in my own experience... and not necessarily the experience of everyone at PFS or the installers for that matter. -Danny...

I don't have experience with CQ, but I have friends that have compared it to Ceramic Pro and the first thing they tell me is that CQ scratches much easier. The other thing to keep in mind is that these coatings work well over vinyl, but the formula designed for paint definitely bonds better to paint than it does to clear bra PPF. One big reason for this is because both Xpel Ultimate and SunTek Utra come with a coating from factory already. This makes it a little harder to have the ceramic coating stick to it. For this reason, we've been using the Ceramic Pro formula designed specifically for PPF and Vinyl and using the standard 9H for paint.

I won't advise you to remove the entire vinyl on the Spyder just to apply CP, because as you say, cost. It's just too much cost to redo it all.

I think you have two options... You could let the CQ run its course and then have the vinyl cleaned as much as possible before installing CP... or you could go ahead and have the CQ cleaned off as much as possible right now and then have CP applied. There is a risk that the CP will not stick and not last, but I think the risk of actual damage is very low, so I don't think you have much to lose. Plus, the cost would be less than having to redo the whole thing. The disclaimer is that there always the chance the whole finish over the vinyl could be ruined if something doesn't go right... which would put you back at square one where you would have to redo the whole thing. I think it's a low risk, but a risk nonetheless, so I must say "try it at your own risk." But I have a feeling that the CQ stuff can be stripped relatively easily. It's just that I feel more comfortable using cleaners, alcohol and such over paint than over vinyl.

I recently added some Expel to rear quarters to protect from rocks thrown up from front tires, already had full front and rocker panels covered. While there my detailer told me about a new Ceramic product he is using called Feynlab. He said they make most of the ceramics used by the others but now decided to sell this new self healing ceramic coating under their own name. Have had on car for a few weeks and very happy with it.
